Several years have passed since the events of “War for the Planet of the Apes” in 2017, and the 20th Century Studios franchise is making a grand return with an exciting trailer for its latest installment, “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” scheduled to premiere on May 24, 2024.

Following the demise of Caesar at the conclusion of the previous film, this fourth chapter in the modern “Planet of the Apes” series unfolds several generations later. Apes now reign as the dominant species, while humans exist in the shadows. However, when a new, tyrannical ape rises to establish his dominion, a young ape embarks on a transformative journey, making choices that will shape the destinies of both apes and humans.
The impressive cast features Owen Teague, Kevin Durand, Freya Allen, William H. Macy, and Peter Macon. Esteemed director Wes Ball, known for “The Maze Runner” trilogy, takes the helm with a screenplay crafted by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison. The film is produced by Jaffa, Silver, Joe Hartwick Jr., and Jason Reed, while Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping serve as executive producers.
Production for the movie commenced in Sydney in October 2022 and wrapped up in February 2023, as announced by Wes Ball with a behind-the-scenes glimpse from the set.
This blockbuster franchise, originally inspired by Pierre Boulle’s novel, has amassed a staggering $1.7 billion at the global box office. The original series included six films, released between 1968 and 2001. The rebooted series began with “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” in 2011, followed by “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” in 2014 and “War for the Planet of the Apes” in 2017. After Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox in April 2019, they announced the continuation of the franchise with more thrilling films in the pipeline.
